SUMMARY:Music Little Sparrow / Tracey Browne
DESCRIPTION:Little Sparrow and Tracey Browne\nLittle Sparrow\n\nLittle Sparrow is singer/songwriter Katie Ware\, a title that came from Elbow front man Guy Garvey\, affectionately calling her ‘Cockney Sparrow’ it lead onto her stage name ‘Little Sparrow’. \nDrawing influences from the likes of Kate Bush\, PJ Harvey and All About Eve\, Little Sparrow’s music creates songs that are filled with a blend of styles woven into the colourful tapestry of her music\, often with a mysterious fairy tale quality. \nThe critically acclaimed debut album ‘Wishing Tree’ had regular airplay on BBC Introducing\, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 as well as regular regional and international radio plays. \nShe has supported established folk favourites such as Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman\, Blue Rose Code\, The Cadbury Sisters and Beth Rowley – over recent years she has opened for Eddi Reader\, Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen) and Mike Scott (The Waterboys). \n“A breathtaking vocalist delivering original and beautiful songs. An incredibly gifted songwriter with a great stage presence and a gorgeous voice.” Chris Hawkins – BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 2 \n“Her voice is pure and lovely and she possesses a natural talent as a writer and singer.” Simon Raymond – Bella Union Records \nTracey Browne \nTracey Browne has been making music and independently releasing recordings since 2001\, when she used her final year university project to record and release her first album of original songs. \nA few years later\, Tracey obtained a training position at Airtight Productions\, a recording studio based in Chorlton\, Greater Manchester. She trained as a recording engineer under Tom Knott of The Earlies and this gave her the skills and opportunity to work on new music of her own. She released her self-produced EPs ‘Tooth and Nail’ in 2007 and ‘The Cat and the Moon’ in 2009. \nTracey was employed as Thea Gilmore’s band’s touring sound engineer; but her ability to play multiple instruments and sing was noticed and she soon joined the band as a backing vocalist\, guitarist\, bassist and pianist. \nTracey released two full length solo albums – ‘Everyone is Ordinary’ in 2012 and ‘The Doctrine of Song’ in 2017 \nPost Covid pandemic\, Tracey took a hiatus from recording\, writing and gigging; returning to the music\ncircuit a couple of years ago \, she is currently working on new material for 2026. \nDoors 07.30pm Start 08.00pm Curfew 10.15pm \nTickets £16.50 from  March 1st 2026 \nhttps://wegottickets.com/event/685044 \nTickets £15.00 available now \nPayPal.com/paypalme/andrewwhalley1 \nLocal cash purchases £15.00 \nCall 07510 853 589 to arrange

M G Boulter has aimed high with this one and taken time to create a full-length work that demands\, as well as rewards\, deep immersion” – KLOF Mag \n“This is an important album. It shows that there are real songwriters still out there\, and real musicians creating images in sung words. \nI’m not sure that this society deserves MG Boulter\, but I’m so glad he still exists to shake a fist at the ‘content’ pedlars.” – MusicNews 5***** \n“Days of Shaking will take the listener on a journey of sheer delight” – Fatea \nClifftown \n“He’s a major talent in my opinion. Setting lyrics that deal with the contrasts and contradictions of life to romantic melodies as hopeful as they are melancholy\, McSweeney’s finely crafted songs have been championed by his peers as well as across national radio and mainstream and specialist press. Since the release of his debut album\, Cargo\, McSweeney has made increasingly big waves on the English folk scene picking up main stage festival appearances. Folk audiences may recognise Neil from his time touring alongside Bellowhead \nIn 2016 Neil became co-founder of Hudson Records and alongside his ‘day job’ running a masters course for the music department at the University of Sheffield\, Neil still finds the time to collaborate and create with the likes of Jon Boden\, Fay Hield\, Vera Van Heeringen\, Lucy Farrell\, M G Boulter and many more great songwriters and musicians. \nMcSweeney’s fourth album\, ‘A Coat Worth Wearing\,’ was the second release for Hudson Records back in 2017. Produced by Andy Bell it built on the success of its predecessor ‘Cargo’. Its nine songs were conceived as a piece and subsequently recorded together\, largely in full-band live-takes\, over seven days in the beautiful Welsh countryside. \n“Deeply felt\, brooding songs rich in imagery. He has the tools to make a huge impact.” **** The Guardian \n“McSweeney is the genuine article. Highly recommended.” **** Daily Express \n“Steelier than your average troubadour.’ Q Magazine \n“Songs so subtle and well-crafted that you can’t help but be drawn in…they deserve much wider acclaim.”DrownedInSound.com \nAll monies raised via ticket sales go to the bands and the theatre. \nDoors 19.30 Start 20.00 Curfew 22.15 \nOnline tkts available \n£15.00 after 1st October 2025 \nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/event/656652 \n£15.00 [mark me as a friend] \nPaypal.com/paypal.me/andrewwhalley1 \nLocal cash purchases \nCall 07510 853 589 to arrange \n£20 On The Door

SUMMARY:Music Peter Bruntnell
DESCRIPTION:In an uncertain number of years time\, it will be acceptably cool to say that you first got into non-Grammy-winning artist Peter Bruntnell through his classic 2024 album Houdini And The Sucker Punch\, before then going back and discovering his back catalogue of yet more “classics”. And you were there! You saw him live. You were one of those “10” people who saw him play in that modestly-sized room\, almost 30 years into his career. \nSo here we are again. Three years on\, another album into Peter’s 13 or 14 album catalogue and shouldering the burden of even more sublime reviews. Every possible positive adjective has been called into play\, although it must be noted that the word “sublime” can never be used enough. Not even 2021’s primarily solo\, slightly synthy lockdown album succeeded in putting an end to his non-success\, despite Mojo echoing the plea that\, “Somehow\, some way\, this cult and infinitely class songwriter must get his due wider recognition”. The Scottish Daily Express with its 5 star review\, slightly frustrated\, said\, or perhaps yelled\, “I’m getting tired of saying this: He’s brilliant”. The Irish Times thoughtfully combined two quotes into one\, saving us the trouble of going back and getting crushed under the sheer weight of Peter’s archive of press quotes: “With Journey To The Sun\, the man whose songs NME once noted should be placed on school curriculums has done it again.” And he continues to do so. But not without a brief foray into dance music\, in collaboration with mega pop-hit songwriter Rob Davies. A foray that succeeded in sneaking by\, almost completely unnoticed\, therefore providing us with no further fresh quotes. If veering off entirely into the dark world of autotune would have increased his chances of hitting the big time\, we shall never know. But fortunately Peter’s taking his chances. \nNew album Houdini And The Sucker Punch sees Peter re-employing his long-term band members Mick Clews (drums)\, Dave Little (electric guitar) and Peter Noone (bass)\, along with a number of his favourite musicians. Cameos include pedal steel virtuoso Eric Heywood adding magic to Houdini\, The Flying Monk and Stamps Of The World\, Son Volt / Uncle Tupelo’s Jay Farrar playing piano on Sharks\, Peter’s old partner in crime (we suspect quite literally)\, James Walbourne of The Pretenders tearing up Yellow Gold\, cellist Laura Anstee on Sharks and Jimmy Mac\, Son Volt’s Mark Spencer’s Hammond organ and piano on Let There Be A Scar and mastering man Peter Linnane touching up the album with some added Hammond organ and synth. \nFollowing Davenham\, Peter will be touring the UK as opener for top US Americana band The Delines at several Theatres around the UK\, the first leg for The Delines of a EU wide tour. \nhttps://peterbruntnell.co.uk/ \nLine up [subject to change] \nPeter Bruntnell [Vocal Guitar}\nMick Clews [Drums]\nDave Little [Guitar]\nPeter Noone [Bass] \n“Somehow\, some way\, this cult and infinitely class songwriter must get his due wider recognition”\n★★★★\nMOJO \n“I’m getting tired of saying this: He’s brilliant”\n★★★★★\nSCOTTISH DAILY EXPRESS \n“As with all of his work to date\, Bruntnell’s strike rate is inordinately high\, and how he has never gone beyond cult status continues to puzzle.”\nTHE IRISH TIMES \n“taking a dive into psychedelia\, the writing remaining consistently outstanding and beguiling”\nTHE GUARDIAN \n“Too talented to stay the property of an avid cult\, his sparky humour and uniquely British perspective are evident in the lushly-attended tunes here”\nTHE DAILY MIRROR \nDoors 07.30pm Start 08.00pm Curfew 10.15pm \n£15 via me now at paypal.me/andrewwhalley1 \n£16.50 from 01/12/2024 https://www.wegottickets.com/event/637260

SUMMARY:Music - Vinny Peculiar Band with guest Common Hall
DESCRIPTION:Images (C) Gel Gee\n\nVINNY PECULIAR BAND\nVinny Peculiar [aka Alan Wilkes] grew up in Worcestershire and trained as a nurse before signing to Manchester cult label Ugly Man records [former home to Elbow]. He’s since released many albums of literate autobiographical pop music over a twenty+ year career touring band\, solo and duo shows in the UK\, Ireland\, Europe and the US. Variously described as \n\n“an under sung national treasure” (UNCUT)\n“a warm- hearted Morrissey” (Q Magazine) and\n“the missing link between Jarvis Cocker and Roger McGough” (Irish Times)\n\nPast work associations include Bill Drummond (KLF) and his various bands have included ex members of The Smiths\, OASIS\, Aztec Camera & The Fall. He’s written and recorded as Parlour Flames\, the band he formed in 2013 with ex OASIS rhythm guitarist Bonehead. \nThe Davenham show will reflect the set list played at a recent near sell out show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room – covering a number of albums from his back catalogue – with emphasis on his most  recent release. \nLINE-UP \nVinny Peculiar [Alan Wilkes] Acoustic / Electric Guitar / Lead Vocal\nRob Steadman Keyboards / Vocal\nAdam Webb Electric Guitar / Vocal\nJim Gee Bass Guitar / Vocal\nPaul Tsanos Drums \n“A hugely talented musician who is right up there with Elvis Costello\, Ray Davies and Jarvis Cocker\, Peculiar should be placed on a pedestal” (Sean Hanan\, Hi Fi + Magazine). \n“A well-measured introduction to an under sung national treasure” (UNCUT MAGAZINE). \n“The missing link between Jarvis Cocker and poet Roger McGough and some of the wittiest lyrics this side of Wreckless Eric” (IRISH TIMES). \nCOMMON HALL\nOpening the night will be Common Hall (aka Robert Williams) – originally from Clitheroe\, Lancashire – Robert’s an award-winning\, acclaimed author beyond the day job\, and in this case a gifted singer-songwriter nudged out of self-imposed performing retirement. \nHere’s part of a review of a recent gig as written by Malcolm Wyatt taken from his website https://writewyattuk.com/ \nOpening number ‘We Were There’ gave off a Robert Forster vibe\, but I soon changed my mind and felt within a few songs he was closer to his namesake’s Go-Betweens accomplice\, Grant McLennan. Either way\, there was an understated yet sharp story song element\, highlights including ‘My Town on TV’ and ‘As Broken as you Think’\, first delivered with past act The Library Trust\, while ‘The Meeting’ and ‘Golden Island’ – the latter more barbed wire folk – were maybe more where he’s at now\, seemingly fragile yet increasingly acerbic\, his songs stripped to the bare bones. Prime examples were the bitter yet measured ‘Hope This Hurts’ and ‘They Don’t Sing for Me’. \nDoors: 7:30pm\, Music at: 8:00pm Close: 10.15pm [ish] \nTickets \n£15 via Andrew Whalley now at paypal.me/andrewwhalley1 or txt 07510853589 to arrange payment \n£16.50 online from 01/08/2024 https://www.wegottickets.com/event/615043

SUMMARY:Folk - Vera van Heeringen Trio
DESCRIPTION:On Friday March 24th Sabado NFP welcomes the Vera van Heeringen Trio to Davenham Players Theatre – Vera has visited Davenham once previously when she and Neil McSweeney played for us in the September of 2013. \nIt’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist. Vera van Heeringen is that person. A consummate guitarist\, highly acclaimed by her contemporaries\, she brings the instrument to life in a way that is entirely her own. Vera also writes songs and tunes which deliver straight to – and from – the heart. Firmly rooted in Transatlantic traditions\, her original contemporary Folk/Americana showcases both these skills: firebrand instrumental virtuosity and poignant\, emotionally astute songwriting. \nVera tours with a watertight acoustic trio featuring harmony king Dave Luke on guitar\, vocals and mandolin\, and double-bass stalwart Andy Seward. Dave has been the backbone of many hard-working country bands and toured extensively with Nashville singer songwriter Gail Davies\, playing venues like the Grand Ole Opry. Musician and record producer extraordinaire Andy Seward was part of folk darling Kate Rusby’s band as well as working with Eddi Reader\, Andy Cutting\, Martin Simpson and Brooks Williams. \nSABADO NFP – works on a not for profit basis – the musician[s] have a guaranteed minimum fee – should ‘takings’ exceed this all of it is paid over to them and the Theatre. \nAdvance Tickets £15.00 [+fee] – £20.00 on the door. \nDoors 7.30pm – Start 08.00pm – Curfew 10.15pm \nThe show will be two sets – each approx 45 minutes – with an interval break so folks can visit the bar & the merch stall. \n“This lady oozes class” – John Atkins \, fRoots \n“Not only can she write imaginative songs she can play the acoustic guitar better than most” – Alan Harrison \, No Depression \n“Her graceful playing is of the kind of a good malt\, it tends to seep into ones soul\, gently ” – Maurice Hope\, Flying Shoes \nMore details regarding Vera – Bio / Videos / Shop etc – http://veravanheeringen.com

SUMMARY:Folk Vinny Peculiar\, James Biddulph Jr
DESCRIPTION:Vinny Peculiar \nMonday September 13th sees a return to Davenham Theatre of Vinny Peculiar [aka Alan Wilkes] who spent his formative years in Worcestershire and trained as a nurse before signing to Manchester cult label Ugly Man records [former home to Elbow]. He’s since put out fourteen albums of literate autobiographical pop music over a twenty+year career – touring band\, solo and duo shows. \nPast work associations include Bill Drummond [KLF]\, Luke Haines and Jah Wobble [PIL]. Over the years his bands have included ex members of The Smiths\, OASIS\, Aztec Camera & The Fall. In 2013 he formed\, wrote and recorded as Parlour Flames with ex OASIS rhythm guitarist Bonehead. \n‘If Tony Hancock had made pop records they’d have sounded like this’ UNCUT Magazine \n‘Vinny Peculiar songs make you laugh and cry and think all at the same time’ TOM ROBINSON BBC 6Music\n‘Honest\, witty\, incomparably savvy about pop culture\, Vinny’s songs make you smile and for the duration of three minutes plus\, they manage to make the world a better place.’ City Life \n‘Vinny Peculiar is all about the words. Looking (and singing a bit) like Elvis Costello in wig and baseball cap\, it’s hard to work out what’s more entertaining – the story-cum-songs or the preceding self-deprecating monologues. Clutching his guitar\, he gyrates and jack-knifes round the stage like a busker desperate for 20p to get into the tube station toilets. Endearing and irreverent’ MEN \n‘Vinny’s songs\, a beautiful blend of Americana\, indie-pop and busker-punk\, create an almost George Formby-like world of oddity and human frailty\, and the self-deprecating veracity of his lyrics never fails to hit the intended spot’ Clash Magazine *** \n‘Imagine a surreal episode of My Two Dads where said fathers are Jarvis Cocker and David Bowie\, who bully their child into liking them and everything they like\, like glam stomp\, kitchen sink vignettes\, mordantly witty lyrics\, nostalgia\, dreams and a sneer\, and you‘re ready for Vinny Peculiar\, Manchester’s premier forward thinking backward looking song smith’ Whispering & Hollerin \nMore at vinnypeculiar.com \nSpecial Guest James Biddulph Jr \n  \n  \n  \nBy day James Biddulph Jnr is a builder\, but by night you’ll find him out and about around the North West entertaining locals not only as a soloist but also in the two bands that he’s part of.
