SUMMARY:Jazz The Breath
DESCRIPTION:The Breath is Manchester-based guitarist Stuart McCallum and singer/flautist Ríoghnach Connolly. They met on the city’s gig circuit in the late noughties. An unlikely pairing though it was\, he an acclaimed guitar whiz\, ex long-time member of The Cinematic Orchestra and a softly spoken Manchester urbanite\, she a folk singer with a larger-than-life personality and a powerful voice to match. Their connection was immediate; they formed The Breath in 2016\, a singer-songwriter duo to present their contemporary take on alt-folk. \nFor them\, it’s all about the song. Connolly is a storyteller and their exquisitely crafted\, honest\, personal\, heartfelt songs are as likely to touch on childhood summers and first love as cultural dislocation\, post- colonial injustices and grief. But it’s Ríoghnach’s impassioned delivery and extraordinary stop-you-in- your-tracks voice\, coupled with Stuart’s understated brilliance that is so engaging. \nThe Breath have released three albums on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label. Their breakthrough album\, ‘Carry Your Kin’ (2016) delved deeply into the spaces between rock\, ambient and Irish folk\, where layered vocals\, mesmerising guitar riffs and expansive folk arrangements created a big sound. ‘Let the Cards Fall’ followed in 2018\, and\, like the first\, was recorded with a full band granting a multi-textured kaleidoscope of sound with a cinematic sensibility. References to Celtic history and cultural loss are woven into a bewitching collection of songs that span beguiling ballads and punch-the-air anthems. In support of the release\, Stuart and Ríoghnach performed a series of shows – just the two of them. Stripped bare\, they found a new depth and beauty in their songs allowing their extraordinary connection to shine through. The duo returned to the studio in 2019 to record ‘Only Stories (Let the Cards Fall Revisited)’ reimagining previous work (alongside two new songs) taking it back to its acoustic roots. This new direction would see Ríoghnach Connolly receive an RTÉ Folk Award nomination for Best Folk Singer and win Folk Singer Of The Year at the 2019 BBC R2 Folk Awards for which the duo were also nominated as Best Duo/Group. \nDuring the pandemic of 2020/2021\, The Breath returned to the studio to record a set of songs in remembrance of American lost folk icon\, Karen Dalton. In the spring of 2021\, they released a two-track single\, ‘Something On Your Mind’ and original song\, ‘Remembering Mountains’. They release their third studio album on Real World Records in 2023. \nThe Breath in Autumn 2023 build to their new album\, ‘Land Of My Other’. Ten original tracks of raw\, gorgeous\, acoustic-minded music.Songs that tell stories in ways that soothe\, stir\, exalt\, and touch emotional chords that will bring tears of lamenting joy\, to your eyes. \nQUOTES \n“raw\, soulful\, often mesmeric\, richly textured and lushly constructed…versatile persuasive vocals” Mojo \n“folk roots but different horizons… the jaw-droppingly stunning\, woozy voice of Ríoghnach Connolly” The Guardian \n=========================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nIf possible\, make your requests via email\, but don’t forget to give us a little bit of notice if you know that you are going to be unable to attend.  We appreciate that there will always be unavoidable\, unforeseen circumstances\, but clearly we want to make places available and fill all possible seats\, particularly for gigs in high demand. \n\n\n\nWe are not a profit making organisation\, but we do want to keep breaking even in order to keep music live. \n\n\n\nBooking Enquiries \nCall Keith on 07990 703 787 \nemail jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, then contact us again \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £13 unless stated \n\n\n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. \nFrom JAZZ@DAVENHAM TEAM\nGREAT GIGS\nFABULOUS BANDS\nClick to see the full Jazz Programme

SUMMARY:Jazz Groove Crusade
DESCRIPTION:Groove Crusade\nSet up in 2019\, just before the worldwide pandemic lockdown\, Groove Crusade exists solely to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Crusaders\, for nigh on 50 years the group of US musicians who developed\, indeed pioneered\, the links between jazz\, blues\, soul and funk. \nThe players in Groove Crusade have\, collectively\, over 250 years’ experience in the music business\, including studio and live work with artists as ridiculously diverse as Max Bygraves and Tony Christie at one end of the spectrum to Sting and Jack Bruce at the other\, via a host of great jazz names. And venues? Sydney Opera House\, Carnegie Hall\, Hollywood Bowl\, Glastonbury; one or other band member has worked stages such as these at some point. \nWhat brought Groove Crusade together is a common love of the music of the Crusaders\, and an acknowledgement of how that has influenced their own individual professional careers\, playing \, writing and arranging. If ever a band was a labour of love\, this is it. \nDrawing on the Crusaders’ entire recording career\, from early days as a Texas hard-bop band to international renown as live and session musicians\, Groove Crusade strives to recreate as best it can the feel – above all the groove – for which the Crusaders were justly renowned. \nWe hope you can feel it. \n=========================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time.

SUMMARY:Music M G Boulter / Neil McSweeney
DESCRIPTION:Friday 5th December 2025 sees the return of Matt Boulter to Davenham Players Theatre for his annual pre Christmas show. \nM G Boulter\nM G Boulter is a singer songwriter living on the Thames coast in Essex\, United Kingdom. His songwriting has been described as “Gorgeous\, in a word” by Uncut and “Highly Recommended” by the Independent on Sunday. His second full length album With Wolves the Lamb Will Lie was listed as one of the ‘Best Folk Albums of 2016’ by the Daily Telegraph. \nM G opened for Eddie Reader on her recent 2025 UK Tour and has been touring with Jon Boden & The Remnant Kingsin the last few months\, previously he was a touring member of US groups The Duke and the King and the Simone Felice Group\, he has been a member of Blue Rose Code\, Emily Portman’s Coracle Band and The Lucky Strikes – he is another person to appear at Davenham Players Theatre via SABADO NFP that has graced the stage of the Royal Albert Hall\, opening a few years back for Paul Heaton & Jaqui Abbott. \nM G Boulter’s return to Davenham will feature songs from his acclaimed recent albums\, Days of Shaking [2024] and Clifftown [2021] alongside other tunes old and new.. \nLine Up \nMatt Boulter Guitar Vocals\nBryan Styles Drums\nPaul Ambrose (Bass). \nDays of Shaking \n“It is a journey that displays stunning levels of conceptual actualisation and a satisfying record to be experienced as a whole\, where both the collective mood and thoughts make connections and wrap around the entire excursion with consummate ease. M G Boulter has aimed high with this one and taken time to create a full-length work that demands\, as well as rewards\, deep immersion” – KLOF Mag \n“This is an important album. It shows that there are real songwriters still out there\, and real musicians creating images in sung words. \nI’m not sure that this society deserves MG Boulter\, but I’m so glad he still exists to shake a fist at the ‘content’ pedlars.” – MusicNews 5***** \n“Days of Shaking will take the listener on a journey of sheer delight” – Fatea \nClifftown \n“He’s a major talent in my opinion. It’s an outstanding album – it’s the best new record I’ve heard all year. Well done M G\, you can come play in my kitchen any time” – Andy Kershaw.Ex OGWT Radio1 \nhttp://www.mgboulter.co.uk/ \nYou can order M G Boulter’s latest album\, Days of Shaking (CD/LP/DL) HERE:\nNeil McSweeney\nTaken from the Hudson Records website :\nFolk singer-songwriter Neil McSweeney emerged from the flowering of Sheffield music that gave the world the likes of Slow Club and Richard Hawley and has since established himself as ‘a songwriter of rare ability’ (R2). Setting lyrics that deal with the contrasts and contradictions of life to romantic melodies as hopeful as they are melancholy\, McSweeney’s finely crafted songs have been championed by his peers as well as across national radio and mainstream and specialist press. Since the release of his debut album\, Cargo\, McSweeney has made increasingly big waves on the English folk scene picking up main stage festival appearances. Folk audiences may recognise Neil from his time touring alongside Bellowhead \nIn 2016 Neil became co-founder of Hudson Records and alongside his ‘day job’ running a masters course for the music department at the University of Sheffield\, Neil still finds the time to collaborate and create with the likes of Jon Boden\, Fay Hield\, Vera Van Heeringen\, Lucy Farrell\, M G Boulter and many more great songwriters and musicians. \nMcSweeney’s fourth album\, ‘A Coat Worth Wearing\,’ was the second release for Hudson Records back in 2017. Produced by Andy Bell it built on the success of its predecessor ‘Cargo’. Its nine songs were conceived as a piece and subsequently recorded together\, largely in full-band live-takes\, over seven days in the beautiful Welsh countryside. \n“Deeply felt\, brooding songs rich in imagery. He has the tools to make a huge impact.” **** The Guardian \n“McSweeney is the genuine article. Highly recommended.” **** Daily Express \n“Steelier than your average troubadour.’ Q Magazine \n“Songs so subtle and well-crafted that you can’t help but be drawn in…they deserve much wider acclaim.”DrownedInSound.com \nAll monies raised via ticket sales go to the bands and the theatre. \nDoors 19.30 Start 20.00 Curfew 22.15 \nOnline tkts available \n£15.00 after 1st October 2025 \nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/event/656652 \n£15.00 [mark me as a friend] \nPaypal.com/paypal.me/andrewwhalley1 \nLocal cash purchases \nCall 07510 853 589 to arrange \n£20 On The Door

SUMMARY:Jazz Will Barnes Quartet
DESCRIPTION:WILL BARNES QUARTET\nTHURSDAY 29TH JANUARY 2026\n\nFollowing the critical acclaim of their debut album Source of the Severn\, the Will Barnes Quartet returns with Outside the Light—a bold and expressive new chapter in their artistic journey. Drawing inspiration from local folklore and Celtic mythology\, the album explores themes of light\, seasons and changing landscapes. SUMMARY:EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING
DESCRIPTION:An Extraordinary General Meeting of Members has been called to take place\nOn Monday 30th March at 7pm at\nDavenham Players Theatre\n59 Church Street\, Davenham\, CW9 8NF\nThe Davenham Players’ Committee proposes to members of the charity that it is in the best interests of the charity and its members to incorporate the charity as charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). A CIO has separate legal identity from its members\, which the charity doesn’t have under its current legal structure\, allowing it to hold property and enter into contracts in its own name and providing limited personal liability for its members. The Committee is proposing the following resolution. \nResolution \n\nThat The Davenham Players (charity number 504475) take steps to incorporate itself as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) on the following basis:\n\nthe new CIO shall be called The Davenham Players and shall seek registration as a charity with the Charity Commission;\nthe new CIO shall adopt the Charity Commission’s Model Constitution for a CIO with voting members other than its charity trustees (‘Association’ model);\nall assets\, property and contracts of The Davenham Players (charity number 504475) shall be transferred to the new CIO; and\nforthwith upon the completion of the above\, The Davenham Players (charity number 504475) shall be merged with the CIO. The merger shall be registered with the Charity Commission.\n\n\nThat the members of the Committee be and are hereby authorised to take all action and complete all documentation necessary to effect resolution 1.\n\nWhilst this should not affect the day to day running of the Players this is an important change and we do require at least 30％ of the membership to attend in order to pass the resolution.\nWe do not expect the meeting to be longer than half an hour and would welcome your attendance for this important matter. We will have Kevin Janes from Cheshire Community Action in attendance to answer any questions. \nWe look forward to seeing you on the 30th. \nKind regards\, \nLou Wade\nMembership Secretary\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou can update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list.
