SUMMARY:Jazz Will Barnes Quartet
DESCRIPTION:WILL BARNES QUARTET\nTHURSDAY 29TH JANUARY 2026\n\nFollowing the critical acclaim of their debut album Source of the Severn\, the Will Barnes Quartet returns with Outside the Light—a bold and expressive new chapter in their artistic journey. Drawing inspiration from local folklore and Celtic mythology\, the album explores themes of light\, seasons and changing landscapes. SUMMARY:Jazz Groove Crusade
DESCRIPTION:Groove Crusade\nSet up in 2019\, just before the worldwide pandemic lockdown\, Groove Crusade exists solely to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Crusaders\, for nigh on 50 years the group of US musicians who developed\, indeed pioneered\, the links between jazz\, blues\, soul and funk. \nThe players in Groove Crusade have\, collectively\, over 250 years’ experience in the music business\, including studio and live work with artists as ridiculously diverse as Max Bygraves and Tony Christie at one end of the spectrum to Sting and Jack Bruce at the other\, via a host of great jazz names. And venues? Sydney Opera House\, Carnegie Hall\, Hollywood Bowl\, Glastonbury; one or other band member has worked stages such as these at some point. \nWhat brought Groove Crusade together is a common love of the music of the Crusaders\, and an acknowledgement of how that has influenced their own individual professional careers\, playing \, writing and arranging. If ever a band was a labour of love\, this is it. \nDrawing on the Crusaders’ entire recording career\, from early days as a Texas hard-bop band to international renown as live and session musicians\, Groove Crusade strives to recreate as best it can the feel – above all the groove – for which the Crusaders were justly renowned. \nWe hope you can feel it. \n=========================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nIf possible\, make your requests via email\, but don’t forget to give us a little bit of notice if you know that you are going to be unable to attend.  We appreciate that there will always be unavoidable\, unforeseen circumstances\, but clearly we want to make places available and fill all possible seats\, particularly for gigs in high demand. \n\n\n\nWe are not a profit making organisation\, but we do want to keep breaking even in order to keep music live. \n\n\n\nBooking Enquiries \nCall Keith on 07990 703 787 \nemail jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, then contact us again \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £13 unless stated \n\n\n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. \nFrom JAZZ@DAVENHAM TEAM\nGREAT GIGS\nFABULOUS BANDS\nClick to see the full Jazz Programme

SUMMARY:Jazz The Breath
DESCRIPTION:The Breath is Manchester-based guitarist Stuart McCallum and singer/flautist Ríoghnach Connolly. They met on the city’s gig circuit in the late noughties. An unlikely pairing though it was\, he an acclaimed guitar whiz\, ex long-time member of The Cinematic Orchestra and a softly spoken Manchester urbanite\, she a folk singer with a larger-than-life personality and a powerful voice to match. Their connection was immediate; they formed The Breath in 2016\, a singer-songwriter duo to present their contemporary take on alt-folk. \nFor them\, it’s all about the song. Connolly is a storyteller and their exquisitely crafted\, honest\, personal\, heartfelt songs are as likely to touch on childhood summers and first love as cultural dislocation\, post- colonial injustices and grief. But it’s Ríoghnach’s impassioned delivery and extraordinary stop-you-in- your-tracks voice\, coupled with Stuart’s understated brilliance that is so engaging. \nThe Breath have released three albums on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label. Their breakthrough album\, ‘Carry Your Kin’ (2016) delved deeply into the spaces between rock\, ambient and Irish folk\, where layered vocals\, mesmerising guitar riffs and expansive folk arrangements created a big sound. ‘Let the Cards Fall’ followed in 2018\, and\, like the first\, was recorded with a full band granting a multi-textured kaleidoscope of sound with a cinematic sensibility. References to Celtic history and cultural loss are woven into a bewitching collection of songs that span beguiling ballads and punch-the-air anthems. In support of the release\, Stuart and Ríoghnach performed a series of shows – just the two of them. Stripped bare\, they found a new depth and beauty in their songs allowing their extraordinary connection to shine through. The duo returned to the studio in 2019 to record ‘Only Stories (Let the Cards Fall Revisited)’ reimagining previous work (alongside two new songs) taking it back to its acoustic roots. This new direction would see Ríoghnach Connolly receive an RTÉ Folk Award nomination for Best Folk Singer and win Folk Singer Of The Year at the 2019 BBC R2 Folk Awards for which the duo were also nominated as Best Duo/Group. \nDuring the pandemic of 2020/2021\, The Breath returned to the studio to record a set of songs in remembrance of American lost folk icon\, Karen Dalton. In the spring of 2021\, they released a two-track single\, ‘Something On Your Mind’ and original song\, ‘Remembering Mountains’. They release their third studio album on Real World Records in 2023. \nThe Breath in Autumn 2023 build to their new album\, ‘Land Of My Other’. Ten original tracks of raw\, gorgeous\, acoustic-minded music.Songs that tell stories in ways that soothe\, stir\, exalt\, and touch emotional chords that will bring tears of lamenting joy\, to your eyes. \nQUOTES \n“raw\, soulful\, often mesmeric\, richly textured and lushly constructed…versatile persuasive vocals” Mojo \n“folk roots but different horizons… the jaw-droppingly stunning\, woozy voice of Ríoghnach Connolly” The Guardian \n=========================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time.

SUMMARY:Jazz Meg Lee Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Meg Lee Quartet: Jazz\, Blues\, and a Journey of Resilience\n  \nBringing together the timeless charm of jazz classics with a fresh\, modern twist\, Meg Lee’s new show invites jazz and blues lovers – and those curious to explore – to an unforgettable evening on tour. Inspired by the soulful charisma of legends like Peggy Lee\, Meg delivers a unique blend of Peggy’s hits\, adding her own contemporary flair to each piece. Audiences can expect moving tributes to jazz greats like Shirley Bassey with “Never\, Never\, Never” and Nancy Wilson’s “Save Your Love for Me\,” alongside sultry modern selections such as Madeleine Peyroux’s “Dance Me to the End of Love.” \n  \nMeg’s own voice shines just as brightly as she weaves original music into the mix. A singer-songwriter with regional and national airplay (including BBC Radio 2)\, Meg shares her heart and journey through songs like “Medicine Man” and “Up All Night” – reflections of her resilience after facing serious health challenges and two major back surgeries. She masterfully blends nostalgia with the present\, creating a space where audiences can savour old favourite’s and discover something new. SUMMARY:Jazz Magic Beans
DESCRIPTION:With a track record for being intensely intimate and seriously fun-filled\, allotment-swing-acoustic trio The Magic Beans have an ear for a quirky cover and the imagination to take it in a completely new direction. Their rootsy originals draw influence from folk\, jazz and world music traditions and sit comfortably alongside the eclectic songs that they cover and their unique way of reimagining them. \n“The Magic Beans trade in transformation. That is\, they distill the essence of unlikely pop songs with just a supple string bass (Matt Owens\, the best in the business) and lyrical acoustic guitar (the tasteful Ulrich Elbracht)…The pair interweave seamlessly\, and\, most important of all\, leave lots of room for singer Zoe Kyoti. In this environment\, Zoe blossoms like an exotic bloom\, and is relaxed\, confident\, and\, not to put too fine a point on it\, divine.” (Mike Butler – Dyverse Music) \n“Blues\, roots\, Ratpack-style swing and theatre…An album that shows not only raw musical talent across the genres and innovation in lyrics and melody….. as fun and upbeat as it is solemn and sultry.” (Nickie Shobeiry – Music Muso) \n“Uli Elbracht & Matt Owens are self-effacing accompanists: they provide minimal velvet for the jewel of Zoe Kyoti’s voice\, which is magical in it’s smoothness\, nuance and tenderness” (MEN) \nwww.beansmusic.co.uk \n================================================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nBookings :  email jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, please contact us again \n\n\n\nOR \n\n\n\ncall Keith on 07990 703 787 \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £13 unless stated \n\n\n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. SUMMARY:Jazz Ben Crosland`s Threeway
DESCRIPTION:‘THREEWAY AT TWENTY’ \nThreeway came into being in May 2004 over the breakfast table after Waterman\, Lodder and Crosland had\, the previous evening\, played at a charity event at the home of two of Crosland’s closest friends. The feeling was that there was real compatibility between them and something new and exciting could emerge within the context of a chamber jazz trio without drums. \nOver the course of the ensuing 19 years\, the band has recorded three albums\, Conversations\, Songs of the Year and Looking Forward\, Looking Back\, which have all garnered significant critical acclaim and received airplay on a number of radio stations including BBC Radio 3\, Jazz FM and UK Jazz Radio. Threeway have played festivals and club dates across the country\, engaging audiences with their attractive brand of melodic\, fresh sounding\, subtle jazz\, the material largely written by all three band members\, all the while developing the intense interplay between the players that so characterises the group’s identity and sound.       \nThreeway’s music is heard to best advantage in the concert setting. Accordingly\, this is an ideal group for ‘listening’ jazz venues\, arts centres\, music festivals and concert societies. \nThe band is celebrating its 20th anniversary and to mark the occasion\, it has recorded an album of new compositions with guitar legend John Etheridge as their special guest. The album\, HARKEN!\, will be launched at the Buxton International Festival on 8th July 2024 and Threeway will be touring throughout the year as a trio and also with John as their special guest. \n  \nSteve Waterman (Trumpet/Flugelhorn) is an in demand soloist both in UK and abroad. He has recorded and toured with John Surman’s Brass Project and the Carla Bley Big Band and has worked with a host of other artists including Vince Mendoza\, Tony Coe\, Mal Waldron and Colin Towns. He has recorded a series of critically acclaimed albums in his own name. \nSteve Lodder (Piano/Keyboards) is a highly regarded sideman for many international and British musicians including Andy Sheppard\, Nana Vasconcelos\, George Russell’s Living Time Orchestra\, Sarah Jane Morris\, John Harle\, Carla Bley and Monica Vasconcelos. He has been musical associate with Paul McCartney on the ‘Standing Stone’ and ‘Ecce Cor Meum’ projects.  \nBen Crosland (Bass)  is one of the north’s most experienced jazz musicians\, having been leading bands for over 30 years. He has worked as a sideman with many leading US and UK soloists including Jean Toussaint\, Ken Peplowski\, Harry Allen\, George Masso\, Henry Lowther\, Stan Sulzman\, Frank Ricotti and John Etheridge.     \nMedia Quotes \n“The ensemble playing has the togetherness that only comes from top musicians who know each other well and think as one. Everything is clear and precise yet full of delicacy and feeling” Dave Gelly\, The Observer \n “Three stellar musicians…Crosland’s compositions are often quite captivating\, the reactions and interplay between Crosland\, Waterman and Lodder as near to perfection as anyone could want” Peter Vacher\, Jazzwise \nLinks \nDropbox – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/a3otkkzf3shaj799p5viq/AImV4HgxRgmY9HcY40pbSvg?rlkey=98legvcmrevyl36pg9v7byovm&dl=0 \nSoundcloud – https://soundcloud.com/jazzcat1951/sets/harken/s-tk8dZN3c6Kn?si=f780304f38e8435090e2fab4e8867655&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing \n================================================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. SUMMARY:Jazz Kevin Hassett's Redux
DESCRIPTION:Redux …..a Latin verb meaning to bring back\, to restore\, to revisit. \n\nThese definitions best summarise perhaps the Redux musical offer which is to provide new\, respectful approaches to the great jazz standards of Porter\, Gershwin\, Ellington\, Waller\, Gillespie et al which have over the years\, by repetition and familiarity perhaps\, lost a little of their freshness and impact. \nMelody is at the heart of what we do \nRedux also intersperses the music with short anecdotes and stories providing a background and context for the songs performed. Stories which have emerged from the researches conducted into their origins. \nThe overarching aim of the trio however is to entertain and perhaps to provide just a little food for thought. \n================================================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nBookings :  email jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, please contact us again \n\n\n\nOR \n\n\n\ncall Harry on 01606 74502 or 07717 224 238 \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £13 unless stated \n\n\n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. SUMMARY:Jazz Jeremy Sassoon's MOJO
DESCRIPTION:MOJO (Music Of Jewish Origin) charts the history of Jewish artists and songwriters through the ages. It is narrated and played by Jeremy from the piano\, accompanied by his exceptional trio\, and bears all the hallmarks of his inimitable style as an entertaining raconteur. It is well researched but the musical story is told from a personal perspective. \nJeremy explains “The theme of Jewish songwriters has been covered before\, but I noticed that these usually concentrated on a relatively narrow time frame encompassing the Great American Songbook and Broadway musicals. I decided to widen the scope into a story that covers this period but then progresses through rock and roll and into popular music\, right up to the present day. Without wanting to give away too much\, my songwriters range from George Gershwin and Irving Berlin through Leiber & Stoller\,  Leonard Cohen and Carole King\, to Barry Manilow and Amy Winehouse. All in 90 minutes or less!” \nSo\, expect great music\, several laughs\, some audience participation and a few surprises as Jeremy takes you on his personal journey through the contribution of Jewish songwriters to the wonderful world of contemporary music. \n================================================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nBookings :  email jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, please contact us again \n\n\n\nOR \n\n\n\ncall Harry on 01606 74502 or 07717 224 238 \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £15  \n\n  \n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason.
