SUMMARY:Music - Vinny Peculiar Band with guest Common Hall
DESCRIPTION:Images (C) Gel Gee\n\nVINNY PECULIAR BAND\nVinny Peculiar [aka Alan Wilkes] grew up in Worcestershire and trained as a nurse before signing to Manchester cult label Ugly Man records [former home to Elbow]. He’s since released many albums of literate autobiographical pop music over a twenty+ year career touring band\, solo and duo shows in the UK\, Ireland\, Europe and the US. Variously described as \n\n“an under sung national treasure” (UNCUT)\n“a warm- hearted Morrissey” (Q Magazine) and\n“the missing link between Jarvis Cocker and Roger McGough” (Irish Times)\n\nPast work associations include Bill Drummond (KLF) and his various bands have included ex members of The Smiths\, OASIS\, Aztec Camera & The Fall. He’s written and recorded as Parlour Flames\, the band he formed in 2013 with ex OASIS rhythm guitarist Bonehead. \nThe Davenham show will reflect the set list played at a recent near sell out show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room – covering a number of albums from his back catalogue – with emphasis on his most  recent release. \nLINE-UP \nVinny Peculiar [Alan Wilkes] Acoustic / Electric Guitar / Lead Vocal\nRob Steadman Keyboards / Vocal\nAdam Webb Electric Guitar / Vocal\nJim Gee Bass Guitar / Vocal\nPaul Tsanos Drums \n“A hugely talented musician who is right up there with Elvis Costello\, Ray Davies and Jarvis Cocker\, Peculiar should be placed on a pedestal” (Sean Hanan\, Hi Fi + Magazine). \n“A well-measured introduction to an under sung national treasure” (UNCUT MAGAZINE). \n“The missing link between Jarvis Cocker and poet Roger McGough and some of the wittiest lyrics this side of Wreckless Eric” (IRISH TIMES). \nCOMMON HALL\nOpening the night will be Common Hall (aka Robert Williams) – originally from Clitheroe\, Lancashire – Robert’s an award-winning\, acclaimed author beyond the day job\, and in this case a gifted singer-songwriter nudged out of self-imposed performing retirement. \nHere’s part of a review of a recent gig as written by Malcolm Wyatt taken from his website https://writewyattuk.com/ \nOpening number ‘We Were There’ gave off a Robert Forster vibe\, but I soon changed my mind and felt within a few songs he was closer to his namesake’s Go-Betweens accomplice\, Grant McLennan. Either way\, there was an understated yet sharp story song element\, highlights including ‘My Town on TV’ and ‘As Broken as you Think’\, first delivered with past act The Library Trust\, while ‘The Meeting’ and ‘Golden Island’ – the latter more barbed wire folk – were maybe more where he’s at now\, seemingly fragile yet increasingly acerbic\, his songs stripped to the bare bones. Prime examples were the bitter yet measured ‘Hope This Hurts’ and ‘They Don’t Sing for Me’. \nDoors: 7:30pm\, Music at: 8:00pm Close: 10.15pm [ish] \nTickets \n£15 via Andrew Whalley now at paypal.me/andrewwhalley1 or txt 07510853589 to arrange payment \n£16.50 online from 01/08/2024 https://www.wegottickets.com/event/615043

SUMMARY:Jazz Kevin Hassett's Redux
DESCRIPTION:Redux …..a Latin verb meaning to bring back\, to restore\, to revisit. \n\nThese definitions best summarise perhaps the Redux musical offer which is to provide new\, respectful approaches to the great jazz standards of Porter\, Gershwin\, Ellington\, Waller\, Gillespie et al which have over the years\, by repetition and familiarity perhaps\, lost a little of their freshness and impact. \nMelody is at the heart of what we do \nRedux also intersperses the music with short anecdotes and stories providing a background and context for the songs performed. Stories which have emerged from the researches conducted into their origins. \nThe overarching aim of the trio however is to entertain and perhaps to provide just a little food for thought. \n================================================================================== \n\nThe box office is able to take bookings for one gig at a time\, but do make a note of the dates which are of interest to you during our forthcoming season so that you can make your bookings at the appropriate time. \n\n\n\nIf possible\, make your requests via email\, but don’t forget to give us a little bit of notice if you know that you are going to be unable to attend.  We appreciate that there will always be unavoidable\, unforeseen circumstances\, but clearly we want to make places available and fill all possible seats\, particularly for gigs in high demand. \n\n\n\nWe are not a profit making organisation\, but we do want to keep breaking even in order to keep music live. \n\n\n\nBookings :  email jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, please contact us again \n\n\n\nOR \n\n\n\ncall Harry on 01606 74502 or 07717 224 238 \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £13 unless stated \n\n\n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. SUMMARY:Jazz Jeremy Sassoon's MOJO
DESCRIPTION:MOJO (Music Of Jewish Origin) charts the history of Jewish artists and songwriters through the ages. It is narrated and played by Jeremy from the piano\, accompanied by his exceptional trio\, and bears all the hallmarks of his inimitable style as an entertaining raconteur. It is well researched but the musical story is told from a personal perspective. \nJeremy explains “The theme of Jewish songwriters has been covered before\, but I noticed that these usually concentrated on a relatively narrow time frame encompassing the Great American Songbook and Broadway musicals. I decided to widen the scope into a story that covers this period but then progresses through rock and roll and into popular music\, right up to the present day. Without wanting to give away too much\, my songwriters range from George Gershwin and Irving Berlin through Leiber & Stoller\,  Leonard Cohen and Carole King\, to Barry Manilow and Amy Winehouse. All in 90 minutes or less!” \nSo\, expect great music\, several laughs\, some audience participation and a few surprises as Jeremy takes you on his personal journey through the contribution of Jewish songwriters to the wonderful world of contemporary music. \n\n\n\nBookings :  email jazz@davenham.co \n\n\n\nPlease do not assume that your places are confirmed unless you have had a response from J@D and\, if you have not\, please contact us again \n\n\n\nOR \n\n\n\ncall Harry on 01606 74502 or 07717 224 238 \n\n\n\nDoors & Bar 7.30pm   Gigs start @ 8pm   Tickets £15  \n\n  \n\nIf you are suffering from Covid symptoms please do not attend and in any case advise us if you are unable to attend for any reason. SUMMARY:Folk - Vera van Heeringen Trio
DESCRIPTION:On Friday March 24th Sabado NFP welcomes the Vera van Heeringen Trio to Davenham Players Theatre – Vera has visited Davenham once previously when she and Neil McSweeney played for us in the September of 2013. \nIt’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist. Vera van Heeringen is that person. A consummate guitarist\, highly acclaimed by her contemporaries\, she brings the instrument to life in a way that is entirely her own. Vera also writes songs and tunes which deliver straight to – and from – the heart.
