DESCRIPTION:EMMA JOHNSON`S GRAVY BOAT\nEmma Johnson’s Gravy Boat is a melodic\, cinematic jazz quintet led by Leeds based saxophonist and composer Emma Johnson. \nGravy Boat is a band that write and perform melodic\, accessible jazz in performances that weave music and stories with “characteristically Northern warmth and charm.”​ \nIn reviews of their debut album\, Worry Not\, Gravy Boat have been  described as ‘one of the most refreshingly imaginative and perfectly configured acts in contemporary Jazz.’ \n​Since then\, they have toured nationally\, welcoming audiences returning to live music with stories\, warmth and melodic\, spacious compositions that allow each band member to shine\, and celebrated the one year anniversary of Worry Not with a limited edition vinyl release. \nIn 2022\, Emma created Northern Flame\, a set of new work for Lancaster Jazz Festival’s Evolve Commission supported by PRS Foundation\, which premiered at the festival in September as the culmination of an incredible weekend of music. \nIn 2023\, this developed into the band’s second album\, Northern Flame\, inspired by the light\, resilience and (often quiet) strength of Northern women\, both past and present. His songwriting has been described as “Gorgeous\, in a word” by Uncut and “Highly Recommended” by the Independent on Sunday. His second full length album With Wolves the Lamb Will Lie was listed as one of the ‘Best Folk Albums of 2016’ by the Daily Telegraph. \nM G has been a member of Blue Rose Code\, Emily Portman’s Coracle Band and The Lucky Strikes – he also tours with Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings and  was a touring member of US groups The Duke and the King and the Simone Felice Group. \nDecember sees M G Boulter’s return to Davenham for a show that will feature songs from his acclaimed recent album\, Clifftown\, alongside other tunes old and new from an upcoming album set for release sometime in 2024. \n“He’s a major talent in my opinion.
