SUMMARY:Audition Davenham Players - Dirty Dusting
DESCRIPTION:Audition:  7.30pm Tuesday 20 February at the theatre:\nDirty Dusting\, by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood\,  is a fairly recent play that has been touring nationally since its premiere in South Shields in 2003\, but hasn’t been performed that often by amateur groups.  These are the authors’ words on their blog: \n“When three cleaners\, Olive\, Gladys and Elsie\, are threatened with redundancy they feel that their lives are coming to an end until a chance wrong number gives them a new business start-up idea – why not run a telephone sex line? They’ve got motive\, opportunity and a lifetime of experience – some more than others\, mind you. Provided Elsie can teach the other two a few new tricks there’s no reason why they can’t get rich quick; providing they can keep their operation a secret from their bosses… and their husbands…and their children…and their grandchildren. \nAn indictment of ageism in the 21st Century heavily disguised as a laugh-out-loud\, heartwarming comedy” \nThere are only 4 roles in the play\, the 3 cleaning ladies and their line manager\, a man ‘rather younger than them’.  Because there are so few roles\, the audition on 20 February is for members of Davenham Players only. A second\, open\, audition will only be arranged if the play hasn’t been cast amongst members of the Players. \nRoles and ages:\no 3 x Female: The 3 women’s ages are mentioned in the play as 70\, but this production won’t show them as ‘old dears’.    They are reasonably modern feisty office cleaners and could possibly be played by any actress in her 50s or 60s providing she is willing to ‘age up’ a bit. \no 1 x Male: The male role doesn’t have an age specified\, but would work well for someone in their 30s or 40s\, or could be a bit older if required.   The character isn’t too young as he is ‘management’ (of a sort) but still lives at home with his mother\, and is definitely younger than the women (which leaves plenty of scope!) \nScope:\nThe play is a comedy but although it’s about a sex chat line it’s not particularly graphic language.   It wouldn’t be suitable for children because a lot of the jokes centre on condoms etc\, but that’s about as\ngraphic as it gets.  There is no sexual contact between any of the characters.

DESCRIPTION:Dear all.\nAfter such a successful Radio Night in March I am delighted to announce there will be a ‘Tonight On The Wireless – PART TWO!!’ 364 days on (15th & 16th March 2018 @ Davenham Theatre).\nDavenham Players will present an evening of radio plays\, extracts\, poetry and sketches\, performed live in front of an audience\nThis is a wonderful opportunity to find\, read and perform material that is either written for radio or just isn’t possible/practical to perform as a production.\nIf you would like to know more or be involved then please come along on Sunday 14th January at 3pm (until about 6pm) for our first meeting/read through. D and myself will be putting the production together so please ask us if you have any questions. \nA few things to consider: \nAll the performances will be done with ‘script in hand’. Everything will be rehearsed but you won’t need to know all lines off by heart. \nThe idea is to have everything in front of the audience. So the actors will have their scripts\, props will be on hand to make live sound effects and we’ll have all electronic music and sound done on stage too. This gives people a chance to see the inner workings (and hopefully tempt them to get involved in the future). \nLast time pieces ranged from the famous classics of radio like: The Goons\, Under Milkwood\, Round the Horne\, Monty Python and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Alongside these we also had original material written by Davenham members as well as a few surprises. \nWhile we have already collated some material we will welcome any suggestions\, please let us know the details or send me or D a copy\, ideally before the 24th January so we can look at trying it out. \nThe plan is to rehearse each Sunday from 14th January until the show. \nLastly but most importantly\, we want as many people to come along on the 14th (3pm) and be a part of what will be yet another really great two nights at Davenham.\nIf you have any questions or concerns about availability\, involvement or experience\, the aim of meeting on the 14th is to address these. \nWe look forward to seeing (and hearing) you. \nTom and D

The setting is a two-up two-down terraced house in 1954 and 2011. \nThe cast to be recruited is:- \n\n 2 females ages  60s\n 1  female 50s\n 1 female  40s\n 2 females late 20s – early 30s\n\nGloria (60s) is know-it-all mother in law to long suffering\nClare (20s – early 30s)\nSusannah (60s) – Clare’s mum\, later to suffer onset of dementia.\nBetty (20s – early 30s) a mum in the 1950s.\nDot (40s) Betty ‘s sister.\nMabel (late 50s) mother to Betty and Dot in the 1950s \nMotherhood has an all female cast and deals with mother and daughter relationships from the 1950s and present day. Last year\, Davenham members attended workshops to explore their own memories and experiences of childhood and family life. These workshops resulted in a piece of new writing which is both heartwarming and thought-provoking. Interestingly\, director Denise plans to have an all-female backstage crew as well as an all-female cast! \nNOTE: On Thursday 6th July at 7.30pm Denise is holding a read through of  ‘Motherhood’ written by Felicity Barry\, directed by Denise Barry\, Felicity’s mother-in-law.
