DESCRIPTION:On Friday March 24th Sabado NFP welcomes the Vera van Heeringen Trio to Davenham Players Theatre – Vera has visited Davenham once previously when she and Neil McSweeney played for us in the September of 2013. \nIt’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist. Vera van Heeringen is that person. A consummate guitarist\, highly acclaimed by her contemporaries\, she brings the instrument to life in a way that is entirely her own. Vera also writes songs and tunes which deliver straight to – and from – the heart. Firmly rooted in Transatlantic traditions\, her original contemporary Folk/Americana showcases both these skills: firebrand instrumental virtuosity and poignant\, emotionally astute songwriting. \nVera tours with a watertight acoustic trio featuring harmony king Dave Luke on guitar\, vocals and mandolin\, and double-bass stalwart Andy Seward. Dave has been the backbone of many hard-working country bands and toured extensively with Nashville singer songwriter Gail Davies\, playing venues like the Grand Ole Opry. The audience are invited to tea in Sally’s back garden with her close friends\, Vi and Lena\, and her oddball neighbour\, Mrs Jarrett. But as these four women while away a summer afternoon with idle gossip and good humour\, there are deep wells of insecurity bubbling up inside each of them and a full-blown apocalypse looming just beyond the garden wall. \nOur second play of the night is the biopunk thriller ‘A Number’\, where we find ourselves in the home of Salter and his son\, Bernard\, who is reeling from the recent discovery that he is part of a human cloning experiment. DESCRIPTION:Davenham Players is kicking off its 2023 season with performances of two acclaimed one act plays from the dark and dazzling mind of Caryl Churchill. \nWe begin the evening with the surreal black comedy ‘Escaped Alone’. The audience are invited to tea in Sally’s back garden with her close friends\, Vi and Lena\, and her oddball neighbour\, Mrs Jarrett. But as these four women while away a summer afternoon with idle gossip and good humour\, there are deep wells of insecurity bubbling up inside each of them and a full-blown apocalypse looming just beyond the garden wall. \nOur second play of the night is the biopunk thriller ‘A Number’\, where we find ourselves in the home of Salter and his son\, Bernard\, who is reeling from the recent discovery that he is part of a human cloning experiment.
