On completion of her studies she moved to London and began a busy freelance career encompassing classical\, contemporary and jazz music. \nJazz credits include Mike Westbrook\, Tim Garland\, Phil Robson\, Martin Taylor`s `Spirit of Django`\, Tina May\, Nikki Iles and Stan Sulzman. As a saxophone player Karen was a member of the very successful all-girl saxophone quartet  `The Fairer Sax`. She has also produced four CDs under her own name. \nKaren`s latest jazz quartet plays music inspired by French swing\, Latin and Tango alongside original compositions and jazz standards. DESCRIPTION:On Friday March 24th Sabado NFP welcomes the Vera van Heeringen Trio to Davenham Players Theatre – Vera has visited Davenham once previously when she and Neil McSweeney played for us in the September of 2013. \nIt’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist. Vera van Heeringen is that person. A consummate guitarist\, highly acclaimed by her contemporaries\, she brings the instrument to life in a way that is entirely her own. Vera also writes songs and tunes which deliver straight to – and from – the heart. Firmly rooted in Transatlantic traditions\, her original contemporary Folk/Americana showcases both these skills: firebrand instrumental virtuosity and poignant\, emotionally astute songwriting. \nVera tours with a watertight acoustic trio featuring harmony king Dave Luke on guitar\, vocals and mandolin\, and double-bass stalwart Andy Seward. Dave has been the backbone of many hard-working country bands and toured extensively with Nashville singer songwriter Gail Davies\, playing venues like the Grand Ole Opry. DESCRIPTION: ‘Artwork by Carolyn Hall Young’  \nThe Joni Mitchell – Blue 50th Anniversary  Concert \n2021 marked the 50th anniversary of Joni’s breakthrough album Blue\, which featured such iconic songs as A Case Of You\, River\, Carey and of course the title track. With that in mind\, material from Blue will be prominently featured in this year’s concerts. \nThe music of Joni Mitchell is celebrated in this performance of some of her best-loved songs. As Joni reaches her landmark 75th year\, these concerts are also by way of an extended celebration of her life and work. \nThe Joni Mitchell Songbook draws on a three-decade journey of incredible creativity\, from folk singer to mainstream rock artist\, as well as an abiding love affair with jazz. \nFeaturing Big Yellow Taxi (her most covered song)\, River and A Case of You (both from the breakthrough album Blue)\, the radio hits of Help Me and Free Man In Paris (from double-platinum Court and Spark) and the jazz-infused stylings of In France They Kiss On Main St (The Hissing of Summer Lawns) and Coyote (Hejira). \nBoth Sides Now is a five-piece band showcasing the outstanding voice of Sarah Miller. DESCRIPTION:Audition Notice \nHappy Families by John Godber \nI will be directing Happy Families at Davenham for performance from Tuesday 16 May to Saturday 20 May 2023. While the preceding Davenham production is itself in rehearsal\, we will rehearse on some Friday evenings. After that show closes on 19 March\, we will rehearse on Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings\, with some weekend rehearsals in the build up to our opening night. Evening rehearsals will last from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. \nThere will be an informal reading of the play at the Theatre at 7.30pm on Thursday 5 January\, followed by auditions on Thursday 9th and Thursday 16th February. On donpolander@tisca;li.co.uk \nHappy Families is a very funny play about family life in West Yorkshire over a period from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. The piece is autobiographical\, and the characters and action are seen through the filter of ‘John’. Godber specifically describes the stage set as ‘quite definitely theatrical’ – and the same can be said of the performances required. (Ideally\, but not crucially\, the actor should be able to play the clarinet!) \nLynn Sutton                 Neighbour’s daughter\, aged 7. \n  \nDot\, John and Vic are on stage almost all the time\, though not necessarily speaking. Jack and Liz are substantial roles\, Doris and Edna less so. Rebecca is on stage for about a quarter of the play\, and Lyn for two pages (if necessary\, this part can be played by the actor playing Rebecca).
