In 2016, The Other Theatre Company who usually perform in Plumley Village Hall, staged a three-hander called Heroes written by French playwright Gérald Sibleyras as ‘The Wind in The Poplars’ over a period of about 10 years. Sibleyras finally saw it staged (apparently unsuccessfully as far as he was concerned) in Paris in 2002. This new version of Sibleyras’s work, re-named ‘Heroes’, has been translated (with minor amendments) by Tom Stoppard. The three men concerned are first world war veterans who discuss their own situations in the light of their WW1 experiences.
The play in its current form was performed at Wyndham’s in 2005 with John Hurt, Richard Griffiths and Ken Stott, not all of whom remain available. However, the Other Theatre Company are able to present the play with the original, experienced cast with which they performed the play at Plumley Villager Hall in March/April 2016.
